Wow – what a weekend. I don’t know about you, but I’m still recovering, and finding glitter in unexpected places. This year’s Pride was an amazing experience for me. Five nights, ten parties, two marches, and zero gay bashings or homophobic incidents (as far as we know). A vibrant, powerful and peaceful pride despite a lot of changes this year – to the Pride route, to step-off times…and weather that wasn’t quite what we’ve been hoping for. This also marked a change for us here @ QPDX.com as we slowly grow from a little website that could into the bigger, badder, and more powerful queer community media hub that we want to become.

We do what we do for you, our community, and we want to thank everyone who has supported us over the past year and a half in so many ways: Holding banners, running errands, making connections, t-shirts, costumes, stealing copies, blogging/photographing…all of it. Thank you for inspiring us to do more and do better, every day. Thank you for giving us hella gay stuff to write about.

WEDNESDAY…
Portland Pride 2010 got kicked off at FAME/GAY PIZZA at party o’clock. Unawares of the newly implemented five dollar cover (is this every week? That’s kinda steep considering most Portland parties are less!) we did a little grooving on the dancefloor, while Alley sported a grass skirt made of QPDX.com stickers. This also marks the debut of our new merch – we still have plenty of buttons and stickers! All our friends were there, and it was a great way to start Pride week. Lovers played – I don’t remember much else.

Thursday saw us kick it at DO THE DARK, which is quickly becoming a fave alterna-queer night, especially for those of us who live south of the gayborhood. Freddie Fagula and friends spun dancey house, pop and allkinds, while the pierre et gilles’esque Pink Narcissus illuminated the dancefloor. The smoke machine was having fun that night, with two options – “extra smokey or extra fuckin’ smokey”. Thanks for that line Freddie. <3 Fun was had, and DO THE DARK seems to be creating quite a few missed connections ads lately…

FRIDAY was the BIG ONE, and saw me hitting up a grand total of five parties – starting at Gaycation with the queer movies. I can never tell whether arty little films are really my thing, but some of the films were totally rad and entertaining – a great, chill addition to the established Pride canon. Gaycation heated up with Mr. Charming and Jodi Bon Jodi on the decks – wearing massive cat heads.  The music was pumping, the drinks were tight, yep, hscene is the homoscene. Next stop was Crave – which was completely packed to the gills. Strangely enough, I barely recognized anyone I saw…where do these girls usually go? Where do they come from? I’m a little confused. Everyone was having a great time though, and Steve and his co-staff were holding up admirably. Jungle Juice was had, and it came with big slices of pineapple and other funkyness, and we danced a little before hitting the road.

Next stop on the list for me was MENZ ROOM @ ROTTURE...despite the DJ lineup and screen printing offered the crowd was a little thin on the ground. Shame – but at least it was nice to not have to wait in line to go to the loo or get a drink! I bumped into ponyblower extraordinaire Airick Heater on the back deck with Blow Pony performers Christeene and Jer Ber, and the relaxed atmosphere was conducive to bumping into friends and having a nice chat. The screen printing was really cool though! Kudos to the printer who was doing it all by herself!

ROBO BOGO vs. ONE NIGHT STAND @ Red Cap / BOXXES

The ROBO BOGO / ONE NIGHT STAND at Red Cap / boxxes was the complete antithesis to the more relaxed atmosphere at MENZ ROOM…Kaki Marshall, Freddie Fagula and DJs Sarah/Seth Gottesdiener (and others) played set after set of great music. The both clubs were packed, and the crowd was a great mix scene queens, dykes, alterna-queers, and drag stars. I had a great time and $590 was raised for both TransActive and the Gender (Free) For All March. Awesome work, freddie and co! It was a high energy stomper of a night. I got to dance on stage which is like, my favourite thing, next to the colour red.

After kicking it at Red Cap / Boxxes our little crew of timeless party warriors headed to the Bling IV afterparty where we drank keg, danced to classic rock and got stuck to protein bars until 4am. Success all round!

SATURDAY saw us withdraw and regroup until hitting up the dyke march, which began an hour early this year. I got there at the appropriate time, but everyone else was seemingly running on extended/daylight savings GST (gay standard time) because nobody was there. Nevertheless, we managed to get a sizable group of folks together and marched down to the waterfront. Shame it was such a small group though. I’m thinking the Dyke March needs to step it up a little-otherwise people will stop coming!

After the Dyke March it was time to chill and plan outfitz for the night, before trekking down to Blow Pony, where the line was a block line by ten thirty pm. Luckily enough it moved quickly, and the inside stayed pretty navigatable until 1am, at which point the crowd bottlenecked at the downstairs door. Lines, especially bathroom lines were pretty massive, even though there isn’t really much that organizers can do to fix that one. Music was good, although a little heavy on the hip hop. Christeene and Jer Ber performed, as did BOY JOY, and we kicked it Blow Pony style until 230am, which is when i ponied my exhausted little behind home to bed.The hardcore gay boy porn that was basically just dicks in assholes all night long at the fry truck was bit much, but overall the event was classic Blow Pony: Great music that breaks with the classic gay boy party soundtrack, awesome outfits, cool people, and a packed but friendly atmosphere. I’m also super excited that there was zero trouble this year. Good job!

SUNDAY…time to march. Our little crew of QPDX.com dancers was amazing, despite the drizzle (which was kind of refreshing actually). We got to march dance around to the music of the Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers, which was funn. Crowd seemed a little thinner and a little more subdued than last year (I blame the rain), but we had a fantastic time, and spotted tons of you in the crowd! The waterfront was crowded as usual, and I didn’t spend much time there, opting for lunch near stark street and some chillout time instead. I left our merry band of warriors for a few hours to relax at home, but rejoined the crew at RECESS  @ THE REPORT. I’m not sure about those skittles infused drinks, but the small but dedicated crowd was still going when I left at midnight, with Malice on the decks spinning classic rock and dance…and there was more underwear dancing, I swear.

Double Down is the biggest queer dance night at Holocene along with Gaycation and will be sorely missed – hopefully this will open a spot for another fabulous weekend night – but I’ve also heard that someone else might continue the DD legacy.

However it shakes out -  we would like to give a big thank you to Kaki and all of the performers/DJs who helped make DD one of the best nights in town for the last few years.

So, gays, lesbians, queers, homos, fags, dykes, bois, femmes, dudes, girls…come on down to Double Down, show Kaki some love – it will be huge with a bunch of DJs  as a send off.  Get here early so you don’t get stuck in the queue(in the rain)!

Coco’s 90s inspired dance party Snap! at Holocene (1001 SE Morrison) has always been queer friendly. They even had a crossover party with Double Down called Double Snap! last spring. But local queers have become used to having a party thrown in our honor almost every day, and with few options for a coveted Friday night we are forced to make our own fun.

That’s why tomorrow, we’re taking over the Homocene.

Wednesday

Real queer porn is tough to come by, although rentals will soon be available at newly opened She Bop sex toy shop (stay tuned for more info!). And though most of us might be more inclined to enjoy it in the privacy of our own filthy bedrooms, Portland is wonderfully community oriented, even in our raunch. That’s why the cancellation of the first queer porn showing that was supposed to take place last month at Rumpspankers was particularly disappointing.

But another local bar has taken up the task and so this Wednesday sees not one but two great porn flicks on the big screen. Savory Pink Productions and Crush Bar (1400 SE Morrison) will be showing both Speakeasy and The Wild in their first Double Hump Feature, complete with raffle prizes for the good boys and girls alike.

Thursday

A cocktail party to raise money for a queer youth organization might seem a little wrong but we’re queer and it’s the holidays. It’s all a little wrong, including their amazing hot Santa promo picture. The entrance and cocktails are all technically free at the SMYRC Christmas Fundraiser at 909 NW 19th, as are pictures with Santa. Don’t be a grinch and make sure to make liberal use of the donation boxes.

For those of you more into the country fare, you can get down with the first ever Queer Square Dance. A wonderfully intimate atmosphere, live music and great peeps will make you rethink your dislike of down home culture.

The flyer for the Nice Package: Queer Holiday Party at Holocene is certainly queer enough, but it’s not Christmas balls I’m seeing. Nevertheless, DJs Girlfriends, Lifepartner and TransFat invite to to spread your holiday cheer all over the dance floor. And believe me, they can make you do it.

Bearracuda returns to Portland Saturday

The beginnings of autumn may have put a slight lull into Portland’s queer nightlife as we all toyed with the idea of staying in, cuddling our snuggies, but I assure you this was a temporary lapse in judgment. We are still two weeks out from Halloween and already the weekend is packed with dress up dance parties.

Tonight’s monthly lady party, Crave, at Crush (1400 SE Morrison) sports a hot zombie theme with go go dancers, fog and strobe lights. Visceral Visuals will be on site projecting horror video imagery on the walls and the Molotov Dolls, Portland’s newest burlesque troupe, will have a sexy scary Halloween themed debut. DJs Mani & Monika.Mhz (top 40s, electro, house, hip hop) on the decks.

However, this ladies night has a new rival in the E Room’s (3701 SE Division) She-Bop, which is hosting a tribute to Cyndi Lauper dance-a-thon. DJs Party Martyr and Queef Lorraine, 80s drag encouraged and 5 for $5 vodka drinks make it a fierce battle of feminine fun.

Saturday night sees even more dueling queerness when the reigning king of the queer nights, Gaycation, returns with organizer Mr. Charming‘s birthday weekend edition. The Libra-celebratory night of mayhem will be scored by DJs Snowtiger, Chelsea Starr, and the (Mr.) Charming birthday boy herself.

But the biggest, hairiest, social event this weekend has got to be the return of Bearracuda, at Rotture (315 SE 3rd). What started as a once a year event was so successful it’s back in a mere 3 months. And now that there’s a little chill in the air, cuddling up to your furry cutie will be even better. Portland party pup, DJ Sam Storicks, is back to kick off the night with local favorites, Rude Dudes, headlining this time. Tasty snacks and glowing cubby club toys are sure to tame the beast.

Also this event will support local queer artists by providing an outlet for display and promotion along with live art production in the second room at Holocene!!!

That live art will be every bit as exciting as the DJing and dancing as it will be provided by the indomitable aerosol artist/prince Rai Villanueva.

But if that’s not enough for you tonight’s Lube wrestling extravaganza at Red Cap (1035 SW Stark) benefits Basic Rights Oregon tonight with it’s slippery debauchery and tonight’s Fame features DJ Girlfriend’s sis DJ GodessFinger spinnin’ it out on decks across town at Portsmouth Pizza (5262 N Lombard).

For the club hopper it’s gotta be a Wednesday night with wings.

This weekend was pretty epic. Indeed the fact/excuse that this review is a day or two late is testament to just how big a queer party weekend it was.

Friday started it off with an extremely packed and sweaty Fruitcake which may quickly outgrow its britches, and perhaps already has, in the fine tradition of upstarts such as Booty. But it was Saturday’s combo of 2 big returns, Sissyboy and Blow Pony, that truly raised the roof.

The boys’ return to the stage with Sissyboy Washes Up, was just a raunchy as ever, and any fears of “whitewashing” were quickly allayed with the appearance of a mermaid enema, a fairy covered in shit, and a Silence of the Lambs style torture scene, all of which you can see in the not-so-safe-for-work photo gallery from Just Out. And while Sissyboy is still most entertaining for their fabulous costumes and sheer audacity than their quality scripting I can certainly get behind a show that makes fun of pretentious NYC performance art.

It was just the right appetizer for the night’s main course. Though most of us were already frenzied, photographer extraordinaire Marty Davis was sober enough to get a second gallery for the night (and though I am quite happy to see many familiar faces, I am, thankfully, not one of them).

As a whole BP was the success it was expected to be. With guest DJs Mr Charming and Freddie Fagula in addition to regulars Airick and others and the beautiful, breezy outside dance floor you really couldn’t go wrong.

But the summer will not last forever and without opening the top floor or the Branx/Rotture complex Blow Pony is likely to become a hot hole of crowded bodies where long lines at the tiny bathroom and bar are likely to make drunken tempers flair. And despite ample spots none of BP’s regular dancers seemed to be shaking it out in any prominent way. It’s just lucky that Portland patrons are usually just as wild as the performers themselves.

After an epic final show in October 2007, the unabashedly naughty Sissyboy shock drag troupe called it quits, and the gentlemen all, literally, went their own ways. But the dream never died. Various related performance groups arose and the Sissyboys released an underground documentary film.

Key member, Splendora (aka Lee Kyle), continued to perform around Portland before moving to New York City. Amazed at the Big Apple’s timidity, Kyle was determined to reunite the boys for a truly envelope-pushing east coast performance. Luckily, we get to see it first.

Thursday features an encore screening of the Sissyboy film at the Clinton Street Theatre (2522 SE Clinton Street) beginning at 9pm. Saturday features an all-new reunion show at Holocene (1001 SE Morrison). Two shows, at 8 and 11pm assure that we will all still be ready to shake it at the all new Blow Pony just down the street.

Though coordinating members Mark “Zebra” Thomas and Devan McGrath have admitted that this new show might be slightly tamer than previous material they assure us that it will not be “whitewashed” and have plenty of nude, raunchy fun. From Just Out:

The most singing. The most dancing. The most live music. Crazy dance numbers. “The best show we’ve ever written,” Thomas says.

Not wanting to divulge every detail, Thomas and McGrath tell Just Out the bare bones of the show, called “Sissyboy Washes Up.” Perhaps invoking The Pirates of Penzance—but with a gender-fucked twist, of course—Sissyboy will play the parts of Portland pirates sailing into New York, Thomas says, to take over the city’s performance art scene.

“It took me a while to see it as a good idea,” McGrath states. He’s quick to note that the Holocene shows and subsequent dates in New York (September 4-5) don’t mean that Sissyboy is getting back together. “We’re doing just this one [run],” he says.

“The reason why we’re doing this show is to practice for the New York show,” Thomas says, adding that it would be weird for Sissyboy to do a show in New York and not one in Portland.

Describing the venue Sissyboy will perform at in New York as a black-box theater, McGrath and Thomas express a little anxiety at the prospect of the troupe’s stage debut.

The competing club nights Gaycation at Holocene (1001 SE Morrison) and Fruitcake at Rumpspankers (700 NE Dekum) are both great [...]]]> I hate it when this happens. Portland is so gaymazing that some of the best events must overlap. But still I know these folks all know each other. We couldn’t make one dance night on Saturday? Nevertheless, you should try to make it to at least 1 of these fantastic events.

The competing club nights Gaycation at Holocene (1001 SE Morrison) and Fruitcake at Rumpspankers (700 NE Dekum) are both great alternatives for those of us who couldn’t make the trek down to Homo A Gogo.

In fact Fruitcake’s theme this week is Homo a NoGo, and features DJs Freddie Fagula, Nolita and Lil Manila (Ships in the Night/SF). And because they especially encourage hanky flagging this tight spot is likely to be very hot and very interesting.

Though you may have a bit more space at Gaycation, this night is also likely to get steamy. Once a fairly popular Wednesday night happening, GayCay has turned into quite the populous affair. It’s the big boi in town and if big beats and bigger parties are your scene this is the place to be with DJs Judical (Seattle), Mr Charming, and Dreamcatcher.

Who says that the lady lovin’ ladies don’t also love America? Independence day weekend plays host to two nights of queer patriotic partying. Holocene’s staple, Gaycation, proudly pronounces its Gaytriotic theme Friday, July 3, while newcomer Casual Encounters continues the beat Saturday, July 4.

What began as a laid-back Wednesday night jam has turned into a young dyke’s who’s who. In a town where ephemeral queer nights come and go on the whims of a fickle following, Gaycation has survived its toddler stage to be one of the longest-running dance parties. And it just keeps getting stronger.

The proudly Gaytriotic themed event features special guest DJ Girlfriends along with regulars Mr. Charming and Snowtiger. A special performance by electronic sensation BoyJoy rounds out a particularly hot summer vacation. Seth Gottesdiener, the man behind both DJ Girlfriends and BoyJoy, has been exploding all over town lately, and he’s sure to produce sparks when he belts out his tunes and shimmies over his scorching backup dancers.

The fireworks continue the next day at Rotture, where a brand new night opens its arms to our dance-loving community. Casual Encounters is only in its second showing, but the debut, held a week before Pride, was a wild success. Hosted by Erase Errata’s Jenny Hoyston and joined by DJs Automaton (Limited Edition) and Nolita (Fruitcake), this chill Fourth of July BBQ party will get raucous by the end of the evening.

Calling it a fireworks edition bash is more than just thematic, however. Rotture’s dark and intimate space in the eastside industrial area also features one of the best smoking patios in town. Overlooking the Willamette, it’s the perfect place to catch the city’s fireworks extravaganza. And while I’m unsure if the advertised “BBQ on the back deck” is more of a metaphor, or if there really will be hot dogs grillin’ and red, white and blue beer, it’s bound to feel like a real American independence celebration with a couple hundred of your closest friends.

A grab bag of important/not so important stuff…first, a brief afternoon update on the happenings tonight. Just so you know it is NOT doubledown tonight @ holocene (we had it on the calendar and it were wrong, so, apologies, holocene is closed for a private party tonight. I want to have a private party at holocene, damnit!) I also have family in town all the way from Planet Urop, so i’m not getting as much blogging in as I usually do.

There are a few things going on:

Queer Youth Movie Night, The Laramie Project, 7-10pm @ Q-Center
Bare As You Dare Party, 9pm-Late @ Dirty Duck

And of course all the standby venues such as E room, Red Cap/Boxxes, Embers, Silverado, Scandals, etc etc.

I went to CRAVE @ CRUSH last night which was a lot of fun – it was full but not quite as packed as usual, I think everyone is still recov’ing from PRIDE, nontheless fun was had. I got talked into a crazy androgyny contest which was not really my thing (not in extroverted mode last night, sorry folks) but the audience loved it and people really tried hard to wow the crowd. Music could have been a bit less ’90′s R’n'B, and some people need to learn the meaning of the word “boundaries”  and “I’m here with someone” but nevertheless I didn’t lose my composure and got a chance to dance! Fun was had. Thanks Crave Team.

Also I noticed that SuperGay has developed a following on CraigsList (thank you to all who pointed this out) which is very sweet! I will let SuperGay know next time I see them

I would also like to point out to everyone who reads this rambly post that it’s Alley Hector’s birthday on Monday, and it’s mine, Perry Winkle’s, on Tuesday, so feel free to buy us sneakers (which Alley and I both love), drinks (Alley drinks rum’n diet and I like whiskey ginger), or cake (choc cake is my favourite, don’t know about Al) or just tell us you love us. Because we love you!

SuperGay stampedes for Rainbow Truth

Wow, thats all I can say. Wow 1: I can still come up with a meaningful alliteration after this weekend, and wow 2: Portland Queer Pride 2009 was AMAZING.

A year of firsts: The first time QPDX.com has had their own parade “float”, the first year there has been 110+ groups in the parade, the first time SuperGay had a proper outfit, the first time I decided to go for FIVE straight days of Pride partying.

Five days.  Five outfits. A kajillion drinks, a million miles on my bicycle, a shit ton of parties, SuperGay jumps, fake beards, hair dying extravaganzas, automation-style condom gluing, flyering, banner making, gender bendering, raindbow deco-ing stampede of gayness. But sadly, on the edge of all the celebrations: tinges of violences, aggression, and disrespect by the police. I’m still waiting for the dust to settle.

I kicked it off at Gay Pizza AKA Fame, held at the Portsmouth Pub Wednesday nights. Gay Pizza has definitely upgraded from a slice to a family pie, last week it was packed. We had Seth Gottesdiener AKA DJ Girlfriends in the audience supporting his sister, Sarah, play some songs with her band, the Gay Decievers. We had spoken word, we had beer, we had dancing, we had Mystic Pizza Crust readings. It was the biggest and best Gay Pizza I’ve seen so far – Kudos for a small time pizza joint in far flung nopo with a “family dining” sign to keep a successful and popular queer night up and running. I decided to go for a street urchin/schoolboy/ generic english person look and it were well received.

After a late night on Wed came another, guess what, late night on Thurs, with the Gender Bender show kicking some heteronormative butt at the E Room. The wide variety of acts was great – and people were dancing long after the last act left the stage. Some trouble in the parking lot aside, it was a good night, and I loved the fact that I got asked a few times if I was in the show – mustve been the bowtie, pinstripes and big ass moustache!

Friday was the first night of chaotic messyness that gives pride that extra boost of gay fruit flavour. Next to it being a Gaycation, Portland is Burning, Rumpspankers and Pink Party night, it was also the graduation night for PCC. I already reviewed Friday in this post, so give it a whirl. This was my casual night – I wore a tshirt and jeans, but still keeping the colour coord theme!

Saturday was the big one and you know it. Contenders were: The E Room Pride Party, Out like that, Pride is a Verb @ Zaytoons, Blow Pony Cruise & party afterwards, afterparty at ascension. I made it to four of the above, but first we marched the streets of Portland in the 2009 DykeMarch, which gets bigger and better every year! Shame a warmup stage with music and the like didn’t happen, and I always bemoan the lack of chants and noisemaking (dear organizers! How about you get someone to donate a shit ton of whistles and rattles!) but it was a great march and, as Alley likes to put it, indeed  a veritable parade of people I’ve slept with. Luckily, I speak to them all, (and they all speak to me) except for one, so thats all right. Not bad going! After the DykeMarch hit the waterfront, I took my tired little ass home for a nap, a shower, a protein bar, an injection of New Deal and got dressed to go to Pride is  a Verb, which was, in my opinion, a HUGE success. Zaytoons was packed, including a crew of people in fur suits who kicked off the dancing at 9pm on the dot. My ice cream van driving electronical engineer friend Roger, AKA DJ Grandpotamus, spun some choice 80′s house cuts, and by the time 11pm rolled around it was so packed you could hardly move. The drinks were strong, there were cute boys in gold tights and nothing else, and everyone was having a good time. Verb is a fundraiser for In Other Words books, and we hope they made a lot of money! Blow Pony and Verb both made it to the final round, but Verbs surprise success made it the winner by TKO.

After Verb, I took my turquoise and pink clad body with my turquoise and pink clad head to Out Like That, the biggest of Saturday’s Pride events. The venue was pretty full, however, with both rooms at the Mt Tabor featuring different music. But despite the fact that a lot of people were there, the atmosphere was vaguely oppressive and dull, and most people seemed too drunk or too bored to dance. The crowd was also strangely unknown to me – I only saw 4 people in the whole joint I knew, which tells me that a lot of out-of-towners picked Out Like That as their venue of choice. It seems that the party may have left one of the components of it’s success behind when it moved from the outdoor Jupiter Hotel to the cavernous and stuffy Mt. Tabor.

The one, the only.

Blow Pony was the next stop on my Pride cruise – i had to help a certain sailor complete a mission, and I knew this was where all my friends would be, including my favourite wingnut, Alley. But by the time I got to Caseys/EagleUnderground, there was a huge group of people on the pavement, lining up to get in – and I quickly found out the situation was a little more intense than -I will chronicle the entire situation in a seperate post because I think it ties in with other issues that the Queer community in Portland is currently facing.

After Blow Pony neighed it’s last whinny, i bicycled back across town, only to be informed by my friend Andy that the afterparty was still kicking-so I headed over to the venue and danced and drank until the sun came up! DJ Girlfriends on the decks, new friends on the smoking balcony, and Paris is Burning on the projector-a fine way to finish up a long and intense night.

I had to go see a man about a dog on Sunday, but I heard that SuperGay was in full supergay effect at the parade. SuperGay told me that they ran and jumped the entire parade, powered by donuts and redbull and early morning vodka, matched with 3 hrs of sleep. The parade was a fantastic success, despite the fact that our parade float ended up in a big gap between the other floats! At least that gave our scooter ridin’ heroes, Squid and Diana (and Robert) a chance to zoom up and down the route! After the parade was over, we had a fine time enjoying the main stage, booths and overall gayness, although again, there was tension and a fight nearly broke out among waterfront patrons. We decided to head to Invasion and enjoyed $1 mimosas instead… I would have loved to make it to PopTart on Sunday, but this little superhero was simply too exhausted.

Good vs. Evil!

In retrospect, I have to say that this Pride was bigger and badder than any of the Portland Prides I have seen in the almost 4 years I have been living here. It was huge, it was intense, it marked a turning point from medium sized cowtown to Big Gay City, and we will have to see how both our communities, the authorities, and the straight world at large deal with these changes. Challenges still abound, and it is now up to us to harness the power of our masses to build bridges, create allies, keep living out loud, and keep having fun, without neglecting to notice that we still have a long way to go.

As these things go, I’m going to try and deal with my hangover headache in new and inventive ways – recapping it!

Last night saw a plethora of queer nights going on, as I’m sure you already knew. I’m sad I didn’t make it to Dirty Queer – I heard it was a great (and hot) evening of X Rated Open Mic debauchery.I also missed the Trans* Family Picnic. Oh well. You can’t be everywhere! But I seriously needed to take a breather and snuggle with my teddy bear (and blog and work and finish the QPDX.com banner and …) so I decided to skip DQ and attend my friend’s graduation-from-PCC-aftershindig at The Maiden, which serves some killer food, strong drinks and slightly annoying flamenco music. And there were plenty of queers there! Congratulations Marissa and Amber, job well done!

After our little graduation parti, I headed to Holocene where of course Gaycation was happening. I had stopped by early to get a stamp, which seemed like a wise decision as the lines were definitely forming! Not as long as have seen them once or twice, but getting there. Holocene was packed to the gills, and the barstaff were working overtime! It was almost too packed to dance, but performer Pashly took to the stage right when I was starting to get my groove on. I loved Pashly’s Burqa-made-of-bras, but to be honest I didn’t really enjoy her performance as much as I’d hoped it would – not sure if it was the clash with the dance-party-atmosphere or what, but the crowd seemed divided over the performance – i heard rumblings of discontent, but also lots of people dancing.

After Pashly I saw my time to hit the speakers, and by this point the crowd had thinned a bit so you could actually dance! House and top 40 dance mixed with some old classics, it’s the Gaycay soundtrack and the public loved it. 1am came and went, and I decided to join forces with co-blogger Alley at The Pink Party in NE, which saw me run into some old friends, do more dancing, and drink a, cough, miller lite! I did get to chat with Jerry, one of the organizers of Homo-A-Go-Go in San Francisco (which we are busting our asses to try and attend), also also an old acquaintance from Basic Rights Oregon. Plenty of the NQM and Sissyboy crowd were there, and Lee Kyle showed up at the end of the night, as well! Around 3ish i stumbled home to drink plenty of water and a warm cushy bed…

Now it’s time for biscuits with pals, nap, then Dykemarch and drinking-too-much for the 4th day in a row! I’m having a blast. I just hope my hangover subsides a bit first…

Organizer Seth Gottesdiener, aka DJ Girlfriends and frontman of Boy Joy wants PIB to be a sort of Queer 101 for straight people, but judging from past events I gotta say that it qualified as at least an upper division class. This shit is queer!

With a special appearance from New York City’s DJ Bruno, a SoHo regular who lent a song to the soundtrack of Michael Alig manifesto Party Monster, DJ Automaton, Boy Joy performance at midnight and drag sets by local divas Sizzlean Jambon, Vivica Valentine and Sable Scities might normally be enough to satisfy. But there’s also tarot readings by Ms. Renne, the Butch Queen Beauty Salon and a proposed “vogue off.”

Boyville, aka Boxxes/Red Cap, on Friday night features the third annual black light party. Neon body painting and glowing gogo dancers make a for a bright and sexy hot spot.

A night that began as a fairly underground Wednesday night gig has become a packed house with long door lines and a crowd of 75% hiiper-than-thou dyklings. But in a good way! It’s packed. It’s bumpin’. And DJs Mr Charming, Snowtiger, Dreamcatcher and Judical, plus special performer Pashly really know how to keep in touch with its nonstop dance audience. You can be bold and do it up on the speakers, be part of the heaving crowd or just take in the beautiful pride night air. For the girls this is the Friday place to be.

And while many joints will have half-naked bodies dancing for your pleasure, Rumpspankers is such a tiny venue that the hotties may practically be in your lap.

If you are without pre-function plans you can get over the the E Room for an early 7 pm start time. Live music from Kiss Kill, Bitter Sober and JoHanna start the evening off. Then DJ No-No takes over. Also featuring totally gay lollipop karaoke (I don’t know what that means) and Pride Gear giveaways.

Featuring an amalgamation of DJs from around the city and mostly culling from Hot Mess and the Portland Radio Authority talent pools, this thing promises to be a dance party staple for the ages.

We want to see Esprit, Bum Equipment, Mossimo, overall shorts, Cross Colors, all that..Think Ninja Turtles, Crystal Clear Pepsi, Bill playin sax and Frankie says relax. Pay homage to Color Me Badd, White Town, BBD and a young Snoop D O double G. If you can still do The Running Man, The Whop, Kid ‘n’ Play or that jiggle thing across the stage that MC Hammer used to do, then you’ll fit right in…We’re gonna sex you up, knock your boots and maybe even zoom a zoom zoom in your boom boom.

I may be even more excited by the flyer that features my favorite movie critics of all time, the ultra-flamboyant Men on Films from In Living Color. Isn’t Damon Wayans priceless in that little miniature hat? It’s so cute I think I have to remind you with a video. (Hated it!)
