Photo courtesy Just Out As exciting as it may be to have a little pre-gay pizza b-ballin’ in the court across from Portsmouth, I have to go with my nostalgic gut and make an appearance at the Rotture (315 SE 3rd) for Nolita’s much missed Fruitcake. Unfortunately, we lost this party to the open arms and venues of the Bay area, and they love it too. Thankfully, [...] DJ Nolita is leaving us! We all knew that Fruitcake was struggling when it lost its Northeast Portland venue to the lures of medical marijuana, but the final death throes came when founder DJ Nolita announced she was leaving Portland for the wide open sea of San Fran. Not only will she be missed, but so will the insiders night that quickly became a Nopo favorite. Our only consolation? A [...] Just a quick video snippet from one of the many queer New Years parties last night. The last Fruitcake ever was a roaring success and Beth Ditto was on hand to help the homos ring in the new year. Kelly Moe will perform live at Fruitcake's NYE party The craziness of New Year’s Eve parties, be they gay or less gay, is well established and usually find me in the safe confines of a cozy NE Portland bungalow. You would think that with this year’s economy that would be especially true. But alas, this year I will be swinging down to the inner SE industrial district to partake of [...] A sad message from DJ Nolita: Dearest dancing queers and allies, I lament to inform you that Rumpspankers has gotten their liquor license revoked by the OLCC as of today and therefore Fruitcake will be postponed until further notice. Get into some tight spaces at SPelUNK Friday the 13th As usual there is no lack of queer parties for the weekend and this Friday the 13th, so soon after Halloween, should certainly be auspicious. My recommendations are SPelUNK at Red Cap (1035 SW Stark) and Fruitcake at Rumpspankers (700 NE Dekum). I hate it when this happens. Portland is so gaymazing that some of the best events must overlap. But still I know these folks all know each other. We couldn’t make one dance night on Saturday? Nevertheless, you should try to make it to at least 1 of these fantastic events. The competing club nights Gaycation at Holocene (1001 SE Morrison) and Fruitcake at Rumpspankers (700 NE Dekum) are both great [...] Don’t you hate it when your favorite blog doesn’t update for days and then returns with some lame excuse about personal drama and stress? That should never happen, especially for a queer blog… Luckily there are many places to drown your sorrows when you haven’t heard from me in days. You could even buy me a drink there! Like
All 4 signature drinks from left to right: Blueberry, Basil, Pomegranate and Lavender Glosses. All I can say is that organizer Carlee Smith puts on a damn good party, and the newly opened Invasion Atomic Lounge (412 SW 4th) is the perfect swanky spot in which to host it. Opening night was the perfect melding of delicious drinks and alcohol soaked nibbly things, wandering chit chat, and aurally satisfying relaxation. And [...] Opening night at Invasion Somehow, the capacity for puns that so enthrals fellow blogger PerryWinkle has taken residence in my own writing style, hence the potentially painful title of this post. Luckily, you can sooth your aching ears with the much smoother sounds and surroudings at Portland’s newest ladies’s night, Gloss, at Portland’s newest queer bar, Invasion. Put on by Portland’s premiere Fatshionista Carlee Smith, of Fat Fancy, Gloss is a [...] Fruitcake, or Michael Jackson? Same diff The times are a little quieter right now, it’s true, what with Seattle pride and San Francisco Pride dueling for our attentions this weekend. QPDX.com will mostly be staying in town, due to overworked livers and overworked bank accounts, but nevertheless there are a few opportunities to party this weekend. We already wrote a little preview for the GFFA benefit happening at In Other [...] Sam Adams' bike contingent at Pride 2009 Now that we are all finally recovered from our hangovers it’s time to reflect on the weekend. It was a wild success that saw the gorgeous Miss Sabel Scities win Portland’s Drag Race, 115 floats, thousands of attendees, very few protesters and about a million parties. How long have I been missing a new queer social night right in my neighborhood? I actually have no idea. But this Friday April 24th Fruitcake, a queer social night held at the absolutely adorable Rumpspankers Pub (700 NE Dekum), right on one of the next blossoming streets, hosts a special fundraiser for Fat Fancy.
