 Thomas Beattie pregnant with 3rd child Wow, there will be a little sports team soon!
Thomas Beattie, the famous Oregon “Pregnant Man” is expecting his third child, new websites including this one report. (the comments on that site are pretty transphobic. I’ll try and find a better source.)
Congratulations Thomas! My first reaction was “three in a row??” and I find it good/strange/telling that I would pretty much feel the same way about any heterosexual married woman. Any thoughts?
I hope the pregnancy goes well and the baby and dad are healthy.
 Ingrid Elizabeth of Coyote Grace will be performing solo this weekend in Seattle. The first time I ever heard Coyote Grace, I asked them if they would play at my wedding. A friend took a group of us to see the show at a downtown pub when I was living in Flagstaff, AZ. It was one of those experiences that takes you by surprise: I wasn’t expecting to discover an extraordinary “acoustic downhome due” on such a mediocre downhome Sunday afternoon. I wasn’t expecting to get tipsy either, but what else can you do on a warm weekend day when surprised with the kind of music that shifts your entire perspective?
Before Coyote Grace kicks off their 2010 Southwest tour, Ingrid Elizabeth—the soulful, sultry bassist of the duo—will be featured in an event a little closer to home, in Portland’s neighboring town, Seattle. XOXO: Love Notes From the Margins (or, A Queerly Crumbled Valentine’s Evening) is the third show produced by TumbleMe Productions. After its initial two sold out shows, “TumbleMe is proud to bring the perfect date night or anti-date night for Valentine’s lovers and haters alike, in one of Seattle’s most intimate venues.”
On an unseasonably warm Portland afternoon, I caught up with Elizabeth on a lawn in Northeast Portland to talk about her solo performance, the up-coming Coyote Grace tour, and what music she’s been delighting in lately.

 Italy to open trans only prison The BBC reported today that Italy has made plans to open a prison dedicated solely to housing trans identified inmates. The former medium security women’s prison will house up to 30 people, even though approximately 60 transgendered people are interred in other Italian prisons total, which may mean that more transgendered prisons will be opened across Italy in the future.

 Amanda Simpson Amanda Simpson is being called the first America’s first openly transgender presidential appointee in the the job she starts Tuesday as the Senior Technical Advisor in U.S. Commerce Department.
Reluctant to be the first, Simpson knew there would be issues, despite her exceptional qualifications for the job. And indeed, anti-gay leader Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans For Truth, asked, “Is there going to be a transgender quota now in the Obama administration? “How far does this politics of gay and transgender activism go? Clearly this is an administration that is pandering to the gay lobby.”

 'Sissyboy Washes Up' Photo by Marty Davis / Just Out This weekend was pretty epic. Indeed the fact/excuse that this review is a day or two late is testament to just how big a queer party weekend it was.
Friday started it off with an extremely packed and sweaty Fruitcake which may quickly outgrow its britches, and perhaps already has, in the fine tradition of upstarts such as Booty. But it was Saturday’s combo of 2 big returns, Sissyboy and Blow Pony, that truly raised the roof.

 DJ Airick spinning it at Blow Po Blow Pony, the popular dance party for alterna-queers in town has been in the spotlight more for its recent drama than its good times but hopefully that’s a’changin’ when the pony stables up at its new digs at Branx (320 SE Second) this Saturday.
Despite all the drama, the party must canter on. It is time to turn our attention to the excitement that a new, larger space holds for Blow Pony. The highly sexual horse is back on the trail with a “Don’t call it a comeback!” mantra that promises tranny-on-tranny action, pocket dykes, limp-wristed bears and any other queer thing you can dream up Saturday, August 29.

 What else is there to say about reletive newcomer Gloss? It’s the best ladies lounge night around, some of the best drink specials in town, and ambience abounds. This week’s party will feature the Red Hot Soulful sounds of DJ Nolita of Fruitcake and DJ Shannon Wizbang of Olympia fame. Plenty of dark corners to get lost in and really feel the music, if you know what I mean.

 Still from 'The Aggressives' San Francisco’s Transgender Film Festival seeks entries for its 2009 Festival, November 6th and 7th. The festival accepts narrative, documentary, experimental, animated films and music videos. All work should be created by transgender/genderqueer people. All work submitted this year must be 10 minutes or under!
Tranny Fest was founded in 1997 and is the nation’s first transgender/genderqueer film festival. In the 12 years since, we have exhibited groundbreaking, provocative, outrageous, courageous, moving and innovative works that show the complexity of lives lived on the transgender/genderqueer spectrum. Tranny Fest is co-presented by Fresh Meat Productions.
