Bent, Buck Angel and beginning the weekend

Trans porn star Buck Angel

When I first heard about Portland queer porn showings I was elated. Slated to be at the intimate and aptly named Rumpspanker’s what could be better than a horde of horny queers reveling in their sexy voyeurism together? But alas, the night was moved south to Crush (1400 SE Morrison) and refashioned with a hefty $10 entry fee.

And while it would be pretty fantastic to join in this Wednesday to watch The Buck Stops Here with the infamous Buck Angel himself in attendance, I really don’t think I can pony up that many bills for a movie I could rent with my sweetie in the seclusion of my own clean bedroom. That said, there will be raffle items from It’s My Pleasure and SheBop, not mention items from the Angel himself. Plus a steamy Q&A after the screening.

Start your Valentines month off right

…with tales from the dark side of dating. It’s Not Me, It’s You takes place tonight at the Bagdad Theater (3702 SE Hawthorne) and celebrates all that is awkward, bad and downright shameful about dating. An antidote for the upcoming V-Day or a reason to be grateful for your perfect little love muffin, these storytellers have some real tales to spin. And they are all devastastingly true. Even better, I make a brief appearance in one. Let’s see if you can guess which…

We’ve all had them: dates that go terribly awry. An evening of personal stories told live onstage, unscripted, just telling you the painful truth. You’ll leave either feeling grateful for your current relationship or with the realization that being single isn’t so bad after all.

Felt Up: Queer Erotic Tomfoolery with Brent Pruitt

Brent Pruitt in front of one of his tamer works of art. Be prepared for more genitalia in the upcoming show

I love contemporary art. I love it even more when it is unafraid to poke fun at itself. Any medium worth studying is also worth mocking. In the spirit of self-love and expression while still not taking yourself too seriously is local artist Brent Pruitt’s First Friday opening Felt Up: Queer Erotic Tomfoolery at Studio 2507 (2507 SE Clinton Street). Appearing for the month of Februrary the show opens this Friday with a reception from 6 to 9pm during the southeast’s hipper First Thursday equivalent.

A weekend of Dirty Queers, Trans Revolution and Homomentum

Trans Revolution dance party returns to Crush tomorrow

Just because you are trying to stick to your New Year’s resolution of not drinking, or at least drinking less, doesn’t mean your social calendar should suffer. We may be experiencing the post-holiday doldrums of grey and rainy January but there is still plenty of queer excitement left in the humid air.

This weekend sees at least 3 big events, the 3rd anniversary of the popular smut fest Dirty Queer, the return of the genderiffic Trans Revolution dance party and the continuation of the popular Homomentum performance cabaret.

New woman-centric sex toy store She Bop opens its naughty and nice arms to the community

she-bop4

Co-owners Jeneen Doumitt and Evy Cowan

Even in a bad economy people usually continue to drink and to have sex. Just as bars as full as they ever were, so too can a burgeoning sex toy shop thrive in the downturn.

At least that is the hope of Evy Cowan and Jeneen Doumitt, two long time friends, who just opened, She Bop, an adult boutique specializing in non-toxic body safe toys, books, DVDs and gifts for women. The bright and airy store, open 7 days a week from 11 to 7, set just off Mississippi Ave (909 N Beech) is a friendly and close in alternative to the fantastic, but out of the way It’s My Pleasure.

Stuff you don’t want to miss this week

santaUnfortunately, I am out of town and will be missing most of these fabulous events. It also means that because of their sheer number I cannot preview all that I would like, but each are in the calendar and I want to give you a quick heads up on the ones you absolutely should not miss.

Tonight

If you don’t already have plans be sure to check out Poison Waters Notorious Noel tonight at The Original (300 SW 6th). Ms. Waters is likely to speak for herself but check out the holiday festivities getting ready photos at Byron Beck’s blog. I’m sure he’ll recap as well.

Hilary Duff’s ‘Gossip Girl’ threesome lezzie action

Just a little prurient and totally unnecessary voyeuristic video clip from Gossip Girl wherein Hilary Duff guest stars and takes part in a threesome. It’s blonde on brunette lady make out action for your Tuesday commute home.

‘Original Plumbing’ inaugural issue showcases FTM sexuality and culture

op

Editors Amos Mac (L) and Rocco Kayiatos pose with the first issue or 'Original Plumbing'

Lesbians used to have On Our Backs and gay men have Butt. Now, Original Plumbing, a “quarterly photo and interview-saturated magazine dedicated to the culture and sexuality of FTM transsexuals” is the new Playboy for the genderqueer generation. Sure, there’s all kinds of hot naked spreads, but you actually can genuinely say you read it for the articles with a “straight” face.

Just a warning, the website (linked above) features many NSFW photos.

The inaugural “bedroom issue” has just been released, and is already on independent bookstore shelves. Release parties continue to soldier on, including stops in Brooklyn, San Francisco and Seattle.

‘Pornography’ and ‘Greek Pete’ at PLGFF, a comparison review

Pornography-thriller

'Pornography'

This weekend saw yours truly at two of the most boytastic movies of the weekend. Both Pornography and Greek Pete held graphic gay male sex as integral to the plot, though the message and approach was vastly different.

I also experienced a much shorter line at the ladies room than I am accustomed to.

I was highly skeptical of both films as the lights dimmed, and I was rather unsure about Pornography until the very end. But though I would not watch it for pleasure, it raises some very interesting questions about the gaze and what really excites about porn.

Portland Lesbian and Gay Film Festival starts Friday

program.inddPride may be the gayest time of year but Portland gets another shot at a week of all queer all the time (well, that might be all year truthfully) when the Portland Lesbian and Gay Film Festival rolls into town at the summer’s end.

This year’s fest seems a bit short and sparse but there’s sure to be some gems stuffed in there. I’ll be previewing each night and offering reviews when possible.

Sissyboy and the return of Blow Pony…Saturday night was a doozy

sissyboy-washes-up

'Sissyboy Washes Up' Photo by Marty Davis / Just Out

This weekend was pretty epic. Indeed the fact/excuse that this review is a day or two late is testament to just how big a queer party weekend it was.

Friday started it off with an extremely packed and sweaty Fruitcake which may quickly outgrow its britches, and perhaps already has, in the fine tradition of upstarts such as Booty. But it was Saturday’s combo of 2 big returns, Sissyboy and Blow Pony, that truly raised the roof.

It’s finally summer! Time to go to Sauvies.

A queer guide to Sauvies Island!

A queer guide to Sauvie's Island!

Sun, sand, swimming, summer….Sauvies! You’ve heard about it, but you’ve never been? Well here’s your ultimate Summer Guide To Sauvie’s Island! In fact, 2/3rds of QPDX.com will be at the naked gay beach on Sauvies just today, so i’ll take some pictures of the signs so you can find it easier. If the “Naked” aspect makes you hesitant, not to worry. Lots of dykes wear shorts and go topless, lots of dudes wear shorts, and yes, some go naked. The area we are describing is queer/trans friendly so chest surgery scars etc are a relatively common sight.
