When I first heard about Portland queer porn showings I was elated. I love contemporary art. I love it even more when it is unafraid to poke fun at itself. Any medium worth studying is also worth mocking. In the spirit of self-love and expression while still not taking yourself too seriously is local artist Brent Pruitt’s First Friday opening Felt Up: Queer Erotic Tomfoolery at Studio 2507 (2507 SE Clinton Street). Appearing for the month of Februrary the show opens this Friday with a reception from 6 to 9pm during the southeast’s hipper First Thursday equivalent.

Just because you are trying to stick to your New Year’s resolution of not drinking, or at least drinking less, doesn’t mean your social calendar should suffer. We may be experiencing the post-holiday doldrums of grey and rainy January but there is still plenty of queer excitement left in the humid air.
This weekend sees at least 3 big events, the 3rd anniversary of the popular smut fest Dirty Queer, the return of the genderiffic Trans Revolutiondance party and the continuation of the popular Homomentumperformance cabaret.
Even in a bad economy people usually continue to drink and to have sex. Just as bars as full as they ever were, so too can a burgeoning sex toy shop thrive in the downturn.
At least that is the hope of Evy Cowan and Jeneen Doumitt, two long time friends, who just opened, She Bop, an adult boutique specializing in non-toxic body safe toys, books, DVDs and gifts for women. The bright and airy store, open 7 days a week from 11 to 7, set just off Mississippi Ave (909 N Beech) is a friendly and close in alternative to the fantastic, but out of the way It’s My Pleasure.

Lesbians used to have On Our Backs and gay men have Butt. Now,Original Plumbing, a “quarterly photo and interview-saturated magazine dedicated to the culture and sexuality of FTM transsexuals” is the new Playboy for the genderqueer generation. Sure, there’s all kinds of hot naked spreads, but you actually can genuinely say you read it for the articles with a “straight” face.

The inaugural “bedroom issue” has just been released, and is already on independent bookstore shelves. Release parties continue to soldier on, including stops in Brooklyn, San Francisco and Seattle.
This weekend saw yours truly at two of the most boytastic movies of the weekend. Both Pornographyand Greek Peteheld graphic gay male sex as integral to the plot, though the message and approach was vastly different.
I also experienced a much shorter line at the ladies room than I am accustomed to.
I was highly skeptical of both films as the lights dimmed, and I was rather unsure about Pornography until the very end. But though I would not watch it for pleasure, it raises some very interesting questions about the gaze and what really excites about porn.
Pride may be the gayest time of year but Portland gets another shot at a week of all queer all the time (well, that might be all year truthfully) when the Portland Lesbian and Gay Film Festival rolls into town at the summer’s end.
This year’s fest seems a bit short and sparse but there’s sure to be some gems stuffed in there. I’ll be previewing each night and offering reviews when possible.

This weekend was pretty epic. Indeed the fact/excuse that this review is a day or two late is testament to just how big a queer party weekend it was.
Friday started it off with an extremely packed and sweaty Fruitcake which may quickly outgrow its britches, and perhaps already has, in the fine tradition of upstarts such as Booty. But it was Saturday’s combo of 2 big returns, Sissyboy and Blow Pony, that truly raised the roof.

In fact, 2/3rds of QPDX.com will be at the naked gay beach on Sauvies just today, so i’ll take some pictures of the signs so you can find it easier. If the “Naked” aspect makes you hesitant, not to worry. Lots of dykes wear shorts and go topless, lots of dudes wear shorts, and yes, some go naked. The area we are describing is queer/trans friendly so chest surgery scars etc are a relatively common sight.
