Lambda Theatre debuts with ‘Break’

Photo courtesy of Lambda Theatre Co.While Friday the 13th’s shadow has fallen over Fruitcake (off until further notice due to the loss of host Rumpspankers’ liquor license), there are other gay times to be had on this dark and stormy night.

Queer-focused Lambda Theatre Company (formerly Against the Wall Productions) makes its debut tonight at The Church (602 NE Prescott St.) with two performances of Break. Brian Peterson directs the story of a street-sleeping addict who finds solace in the company of a frigid Englishman.

Scott is down low in the midst of the streets of New England and the only thing that he finds comforting at first is a fire extinguisher. Upon traveling through street after street, he finds a familiar house from his childhood and his previous travels to the beach. So he enters but finds the house to be not empty. Scott wants and loves the coffee and Nigel is starting to find the comfort in Scott.

Written by Village Voice Pick of the Year J. Stephen Brantley, Break will be performed by Jack Rossman and Vinnie Duyck today only at 8 and 11 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door with concessions that will benefit Portland Playhouse.

If you miss tonight’s shows, stay tuned for Peterson’s upcoming production, Can’t Tear Me Down. Due to hit the stage this spring, the play deals with the 1969 NYC Stonewall Riots.
