KO & Co.’s newest project, “ExpecTUtion,” tackles expectation and adaptability in a piece that literally queers the stage by turning it into a three dimensional landscape, complete with hills and valleys.
With a design that looks more skate park than dance floor, the plywood construction becomes a microcosm of the human experience, filled with unexpected twists and turns. The stage is a 20-piece puzzle designed by Carly Boynton and built by Mr. Plywood and seven local carpenters.
Led by choreographer Katrina O’Brien, KO & Co. debuts the series of four dances this weekend at the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center (5340 N Interstate Ave.), with shows tonight and Friday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets are $12 to 15.
KO&Co.’s “ExpecTUtion” includes performances by Taryn Johnson, Kimberly Hoffman, Esther LaPointe, Beth Rankin Loy, Paige McKinney, Catherine Walker, Taylor Young and Erin Zintek.
